Origins and Motivation

How things started

Knorr-Bremse Global Care was set up as a non-profit organization by Knorr-Bremse employees on January 18, 2005 in the wake of the tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004 in Southeast Asia. The aim was to provide carefully targeted, effective help to the victims.

What motivates us

Our mission is to improve the lives of people who are in need through no fault of their own, and to give them a chance to determine their own lives independently.

We always operate on the principle of helping people to help themselves. At the same time we want to raise awareness among Knorr-Bremse employees of the need for greater social involvement and encourage them to become active themselves. In this way they can operate as multipliers and communicate to the public in general the idea of making a personal contribution.

Involvement of Knorr-Bremse sites and their employees all over the world is one of the central objectives of our work and helps us to plan, manage, and implement projects at a local level. We will continue to encourage local sites and their employees to become involved, both in the field of vocational training – one of our main focuses – and in other projects as well.

We see ourselves as partners who can provide not only financial resources but also time, expertise and experience for our projects. The technical expertise, of our partner organizations, combined with close supervision and entrepreneurial project management and monitoring by our own organization, is the key to our success and enables our joint activities to have a lasting impact.

That is what differentiates Knorr-Bremse Global Care’s approach from that of many other aid organizations.
