To increase the educational opportunities available to youth in Acuna, Mexico, Knorr-Bremse Global Care is financing the building of a new industrial lab and equipping it with state-of-the-art production systems to allow students to practice in simulated industrial setting skills.

In June 2017, the cornerstone for the industrial lab of the Colegio de Estudios Científicos y Technológicos del Estado de Coahuila (CECyTEC) was set. After finishing, the new industrial production laboratory will be open to all students of the school. It will provide CECyTEC students the opportunity to simulate and experiment on practical industrial workplace scenarios. The building and equipment is financed with 150,000 USD by Knorr-Bremse Global Care. Other shares were contributed by Bendix and by CECyTEC.

Besides the building, the locally based company Bendix will establish a yearly scholarship program for four students and offer them a dual training at the site and at CECyTEC. The apprenticeship program will enable the selected students to engage in extended work experience plus classroom theory, which will help them earn a high school diploma while also preparing them for a real work environment.

“There is so much excitement at CECyTEC around the new lab and the apprenticeship program,” said. Maria Gutierrez, director of corporate responsibility and sustainabilitiy at Bendix. “The students were involved in a contest to help design the lab. They are caught up in the spirit of the whole endeavor. They can’t wait for everything to get underway, and the same goes for us at Bendix.”

Education is a key project area of Knorr-Bremse Global Care. Through the cooperation of Knorr-Bremse sites, Knorr-Bremse Global Care and vocational training schools and organizations, dual-education programs can be offered like in India, Brazil or Mexico.
